Is It Heart Burn, Or Acid Reflux?

by William H. Hebda

How do you know if you have Acid Reflux or just a simple case of heart burn? You don’t, you may not actually know without first seeing a doctor! To start, if you don’t have Acid Reflux believe me you don’t want to have it! And having normal heart burn and taking products to make you feel better is difficult enough to cope with, but when you have Acid Reflux your in another ball game!

Let me begin by saying if your not sure if you actually have Acid Reflux or not, but think you may, you might want to get checked out by a doctor as soon as possible. Now as in my case I do have Acid Reflux, and if I could only turn back the clock, to this day if things were done differently some time ago in hopes that I prevented myself from getting it altogether. But back several years ago when I had a job that required me to work the afternoon shift, and getting home around 9pm in the evening time after I was done with work, and then not long after I was than ready to sit down and have something to eat. Well of course not long after eating at that hour of the night I was… you guessed it… ready to turn in for the night, and not really thinking at the time how bad it was for me to eat and lay down and go to sleep right afterwards, I believe that started all the trouble for me. And having the same routine continue on for several years that developed into some bad times in how my stomach began to feel.

Let me say, I think most people know that it’s really not a good idea for you to lay down right after eating, but still many people do it anyways. People I believe simply feel nothing will happen to me, I’ll be ok. Perhaps at the time I felt the same, I don’t really know, I don’t actually recall. But I do know in my case after going to sleep very soon after eating for all those years on a continuous basis, I may of in fact developed it than which resulted in my stomach not feeling well all the time. And when you eat the wrong foods or drink the wrong drinks which are common for a person who may have Acid Reflux your stomach will “plain and simple” feel awful!

To name just a few foods that are common for you not to eat for most people who actually have Acid Reflux are Chocolate, Tomatoes, Ketchup, and Citrus Fruits. But again not everyone is the same, there can be many more foods and even drinks that you may need to avoid in order not to have the very uncomfortable stomach effects of Acid Reflux.

Having it still may even give you trouble when you lay down to go to sleep, even several hours after you have eaten you may have to sleep with your head elevated much higher than the rest of your body in order to have a good nights sleep.

So remembering what not to eat or drink, and not to lay down right after eating are all very important. And once again if you do have Acid Reflux and the problems continue, or if you think you may have it, I suggest you go to a doctor to determine what treatment you may need if any, and if in fact you really do have Acid Reflux, and not just normal heart burn. Of course the doctor will tell you more about the conditions, what to do, what not to do, the foods and drinks to avoid, any medications you may need to take, and exams or even tests you may need to have. And again remember if you have just a simple case of heart burn, remember you don’t want to have Acid Reflux, and you don’t want to let the problem continue to get worst without being treated.

But don’t lose hope, first let me say, I feel the importance to repeat myself regarding the importance of certain things in which I have mentioned previously. I feel you should know if you do have Acid Reflux you may be able to control it by simply avoiding the foods and drinks that give you the problems, and by simply checking the ingredients on packages that you purchase and knowing what to look for that cause the problems for you in advance, and making sure to always avoid these foods and drinks at all costs. And to also remember not to lay down after eating which may still be as important as ever for you to feel better!

So if you remember to follow these important steps each and every day like I do, you too may continue to feel free of stomach discomfort every day, and you may just be able to control your Acid Reflux for life, feel better, and make it much easier for you to cope with it each and every day of your life!

You may be able to control Acid Reflux by watching what you eat and drink! Having Acid Reflux can become very Serious if not controlled. Be sure that you get checked by a doctor for the first signs of any problems that may lead to Acid Reflux, so you can live a life in comfort and not discomfort!

  1. Just what to make sure if i have acid reflux. Honestly I don’t know the feeling of heartburn or any other symptoms but this is what i feel. A lot of time I am suffering from hyperacidity. When i woke up in the morning My taste is sweet. There are times that i am feeling heartburn(but i am not sure if that’s a heartburn.) When i sing a lot of times i’m ending up with hoarse voice. In all of that do i have acid reflux? I really want to know because i am a singer and my friends said it affects my voice. Thanks!

  2. I have never heard of the connection, but gasitrc reflux should be treated by a DR, if you haven’t already. Even occasional reflux can cause damage to your esophagus. Many people consider it an annoyance, but it can be serious.
